IMF-WIFPR Conference on Financial and Real Implications of Technologies, AI, and Cyber Risks
The 2024 IMF-WIFPR Conference will take place on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.
The integration of advanced technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and the escalating threat of cyber risks are at the forefront of shaping the future landscape of the global financial system. This evolution presents a complex blend of opportunities and challenges, fundamentally altering how financial transactions are conducted, risks are managed, and services are delivered. The pervasive influence of these technologies and risks not only impacts the efficiency and accessibility of financial services but also introduces new vulnerabilities and systemic concerns that must be addressed.
The IMF-WIFPR Conference on Financial and Real Implications of Technologies, AI, and Cyber Risks aims to convene an assembly of academic scholars, industry leaders, and policymakers. Jointly organized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Wharton Initiative on Financial Policy and Regulation (WIFPR), this conference is dedicated to dissecting the influence of technological advancements, AI integration, and cyber vulnerabilities on the broader financial system. Discussions and presentations will critically evaluate the financial and real implications of these technological interventions and explore policy measures apt for mitigating associated risks, thereby fostering a resilient financial and economic infrastructure.
This year’s conference builds on the success of last year’s IMF-WIFPR Conference on Non-Bank Financial Intermediation, Financial Stability, and Policy Responses, which focused on financial stability in the face of non-bank financial sector risks, such as those observed in the financial market turmoil during March 2020. Going forward, the IMF and WIFPR plan to continue this collaborative effort with annual conferences tackling critical topics at the forefront of financial stability, macroeconomic effects, and policy strategies.
The program is available here.
The conference is invite-only and will be held in-person at IMF headquarters in Washington, DC.
