IMF-WIFPR Conference on the Evolving Global Financial Architecture

The 2025 IMF-WIFPR Conference will take place on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

Jointly organized by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Wharton Initiative on Financial Policy and Regulation (WIFPR), the IMF-WIFPR Conference on the Evolving Global Financial Architecture brings together a distinguished group of academic researchers, industry practitioners, and global policymakers to examine one of the most pressing challenges facing the world economy today: the rising fragmentation of the international economic order. Jointly hosted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Wharton Initiative on Financial Policy and Regulation (WIFPR), the conference explores how geopolitical tensions and shifting alliances are reshaping global capital flows, currency dynamics, and the architecture of cross-border finance. Through a series of high-level discussions and research presentations, participants will evaluate the implications of this fragmentation for macroeconomic stability, international monetary coordination, and the future of banking and payments. As the global financial system navigates growing uncertainty and strategic realignments, this conference aims to foster timely dialogue and advance a deeper understanding of the evolving global financial landscape.

This year’s conference builds on the success of the previous two conferences, the 2024 IMF-WIFPR Conference on Financial and Real Implications of Technologies, AI, and Cyber Risks and the 2023 IMF-WIFPR Conference on Non-Bank Financial Intermediation, Financial Stability, and Policy Responses. Going forward, the IMF and WIFPR plan to continue this collaborative effort with annual conferences tackling critical topics at the forefront of financial stability, macroeconomic effects, and policy strategies.

The conference is invite-only and will be held in-person at IMF headquarters in Washington, DC.
