Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman was appointed as India’s Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs in 2019. She was first elected to the Rajya Sabha in the Parliament of India in 2014, and subsequently re-elected in 2016. She has also held several ministerial portfolios since 2014, including Minister of Defence, Minister of State of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, and Minister of State in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Smt. Sitharaman obtained a Master of Arts degree in Economics and M.Phil from Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at the Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College in Tiruchirapalli.
